All profane, questionable, or vulgar content should be transcribed as captured. It is imperative that we transcribe profanity accurately as the sensitive nature of the content can offend and make content unsuitable for its intended audience.
If you are uncomfortable with the content of a file, it is your responsibility to bring it up to a manager. It is otherwise expected that your transcript will be complete and accurate to the absolute best of your abilities.

Guidelines
General
- All profanity, whether censored or not, needs to be followed by the the Profanity marker. See guidelines below.
- Every situation where our transcripts do not reflect the actual dialogue and narrative of the content, especially when dealing with profanity, reflects poorly on everyone who worked on that file.
- You must be absolutely certain in every case that any profanity included in your work accurately reflects what is being spoken.
- It is better to use the [Indistinct] marker if you are unsure than to include profanity that was not spoken.
Clearly Spoken
- All profanity that is clear and not audibly censored in any way should be transcribed as spoken.
- We don't make decisions on what gets censored.
- Must be followed by the Profanity marker.
Edited
Words or phrases that are obscured by some post-production technique is considered edited.
All edited profanity must be followed by the Profanity marker.
There are two primary ways content creators handle editing their audio.
1. Bleep/Sound Effect
Words or phrases that are obscured by an audible bleep or by some sound effect will be captured as [BLEEP].
2. Audio Drop
Words or phrases that are obscured by making the audio inaudible, such as by muting the dialogue or removing it entirely, will be captured as an ellipsis ( ... ).
- Never guess/transcribe a word in place of an audio drop or audible bleep.
- If a bleep or audio effect is mistimed, it should be treated as if it were not mistimed, and the profanity should still be censored.
Markers
[BLEEP] (macro: xxi)
Used whenever profanity or any other speech is audibly covered up by a bleep or other sound effect.
- Takes the place of whatever dialogue is censored by the bleep.
- Should not be removed from your transcript.
Profanity Marker (macro: ddd)
The Profanity marker is used internally to make it easier to find profanity within a transcription.
- All instances of profanity should be marked using the Profanity marker.
- Place a Profanity marker after every instance of censored or uncensored profanity.
- Will not appear in the transcript as seen by the customer.
- Should not be removed from your transcript.
- DO NOT use the Profanity marker to take the place of any censored or uncensored profanity.
- All of your Profanity markers will be checked during review.
- All profanity must be captured in accordance with the profanity standards listed above.
