Text Restore: The Unabridged Field Guide

Text Restore

NOTE:

  • IF you have accidentally deleted all your text while logged in and actively scribing, first try CTRL + Z to undo the last keystroke. Video Formalizer allows you to undo several steps, so this is often the quickest and easiest way to restore your text in real-time. If this method works, no further action is needed.

  • IF you have a job saved, and the job is missing the text when you open up the job, continue through the following steps:

1. Navigate to "F5 Text Restore" tab.

2. First, try hitting "Load Previous Iteration."
If this function works without any errors or popups, and your text has returned, jump ahead to step 4.

However ...

3. If the single click of this functions does not restore the text, and VFMZ is telling you to select an iteration, try hitting "Refresh" in the center of the screen. VFMZ may prompt you to select an iteration that you last worked on, the latest versions being closest to the top of the list (center of the screen). They will be listed as times, for example, 3:30, 3:35, 3:40, so on and so forth. Select the latest iteration from the box. You should be getting a text preview in the "Preview" box. If some iterations are blank in the Preview box, this means those versions have been saved blank, and you'll need to find a version that has the text saved. Once you find the version that you want to restore, click to highlight it and press "Restore All."

4. Once the text returns, the video will disappear. Simply hit "Reload Video," and this should be fixed.

If it didn't work, start from the top and select a different iteration to restore. As noted above, be careful not to restore an iteration that just shows blank text because once loaded, VFMZ will continue to save that blank text as the latest iterations.

If any of the above mentioned functions are simply not working or missing, try to quickly log out/log in to Video Formalizer and start from Step 1.

  • Note of caution: Occasionally, a Text Restore iteration may be missing a small amount of your text, dependent upon when the auto-save occurred and when you lost the job text. Always check the last place you left off to ensure nothing went missing in the Text Restore process. Never blindly jump back into a job after Text Restore as you will still be held responsible for any omissions or issues with the transcript.
